OTS highlights importance of diaspora unity, cultural cooperation

(MENAFN) Kubanychbek Omuraliev, secretary-general of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), emphasized the importance of diaspora cohesion and cultural collaboration during a reception hosted by the Azerbaijani Embassy in the US on Wednesday, commemorating the Day of Solidarity of Azerbaijanis Worldwide.

Omuraliev described the observance as a celebration of the “unity, resilience, and strong sense of identity” shared by Azerbaijanis globally. He stressed that the OTS places special importance on working with diaspora communities, which serve as natural links between societies, economies, and cultures.

Highlighting the organization’s initiatives, Omuraliev noted efforts to strengthen coordination among Turkic diasporas through dialogue platforms and joint projects aimed at promoting cultural heritage and people-to-people connections, including in the United States. He also mentioned the creation of a cooperation platform among national diaspora agencies, which has already yielded practical results, and announced that the OTS’s Diaspora Capacity-Building Training Program may hold its next session in the US next year.

Omuraliev praised Azerbaijan’s leadership within the OTS, noting its role as chairperson-in-office and its contributions to fostering solidarity and practical cooperation across the Turkic world. Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to the US, Khazar Ibrahim, echoed these sentiments, describing the occasion as a day of solidarity not just for Azerbaijanis but for all Turks and expressing hope that participation from diasporas of other friendly nations would grow in the future.
